Most of the rabbit food in petshops is out to kill your rabbit!! Another reason to avoid petshops that do not care about animals and esp those selling animals.

The thing about maize

The corn kernel (which is botanically a fruit and a seed) is protected by a tough outer layer called the pericarp, also known as the hull or bran.

These hulls are basically impossible to digest for rabbits, and even humans struggle with it; thus you poop out whole kernels if you do not chew properly.

When the hulls are bigger pieces, they stay behind in the cecum, (the “fiberdigest tummy of a rabbit” and can start a blockage, or worse, fermenting, causing gas and even toxins to be released, slowly poisoning your rabbit.

Many people say: my rabbit always had maize. Yes, but how long did your rabbit live, and how bad was the health in the end? Rabbits hide their illness or discomfort well.

Maize is also the nr 1 cause of broken molars in rabbits. Your bun that never needed a dental can suddenly have a broken molar, where the whole of the dynamics in the mouth change.
Avoid maize, esp bigger or whole pieces!

You do not see the imediate effects of maize. You see it when its basically too late.
